March
BBC Radio Guernsey first took to the air in March, and Puffin's Pla(i)ce debuted on ITV. The month also saw the publication of Victor Hugo's Les Travailleurs de la Mer (The Toilers of the Sea) and GB Edwards' The Book of Ebenezer Le Page.
Torrey Canyon spilled its oil on Guernsey's beaches, and a man who had once been "killed in action" was appointed to run Guernsey's new airport, shortly before it was taken over at the start of the occupation – a subject that was covered in some detail, albeit with a fictional slant, by ITV's two-series drama, Enemy at the Door, which completed its run in March 1980.
