In July, the BBC's second-ever broadcast from the Channel Islands came from Sark, and it was the month in which Sark-based writer Mervyn Peake, who incorporated many Sark place names into his Gormenghast series, was born in China.
The Royal Guernsey Light Infantry museum opened at Castle Cornet and a man posted himself from Guernsey to Sark. [Guernsey bought Herm](/guernsey-bought-herm-from-the-mainland/ from the mainland, ITV broadcast the first episode of Island at War, and the BBC came live from Herm, by way of France and the Eurovision transmission network.
